July 5, 2026 - 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
from Blessed Sacrament Parish Community Homilies · host Fr. Rob Howe
In this homily, Fr. Rob explores one of Jesus' most transformative acts: taking symbols of shame, pain, and horror and converting them into sources of grace and divine love. The ultimate example is the cross itself—a Roman instrument of torture and control that Jesus transformed into a symbol of life, love, and redemption. The wounds of crucifixion, once repulsive, became testimony to God's sacrificial love. Fr. Rob then examines Jesus' use of the yoke—an instrument meant to control and burden beasts of labor—as a metaphor for our relationship with Christ. But Christ's yoke is fundamentally different: it is a dual yoke where we are never alone. When we are weary and life feels unbearable, Christ walks beside us, providing strength when we have none, hope when despair seems inevitable, and life when all seems lost. This homily is an invitation to trust in Christ's presence, recognizing that while suffering may not disappear, we never bear it in isolation.
