Daily Dose of Hope July 7, 2026   Scripture:  2 Kings 5   Prayer: Jesus, Oh, how we need you! Amen.   Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope Church Bible reading plan.  We are currently working our way through 2 Kings.   Today's reading is 2 Kings 5.  The chapter begins with Naaman, a decorated military hero who is afflicted with leprosy.  Leprosy in those days was horribly isolating.  In the Old Testament, leprosy is mentioned 55 times but really included a wide variety of different infection skin diseases.    Naaman, who is from Aram (modern day Syria), is told by a servant girl that there is a man of God in Israel who could cure him.  As we read, he goes to Israel and meets the prophet Elisha who gives him a method to be cured.  Naaman is more than a bit arrogant and is appalled that Elisha doesn't come out to greet him and give him some elaborate healing presentation.  It's interesting that Naaman almost misses his healing because of his arrogance and pride.  He thought he deserved some big deal ceremony, when really all he needed to do was be obedient.  I hope he was grateful for his own servants who encouraged him to go ahead and follow Elisha's instructions to bathe in the Jordan River seven times.    How often does our own arrogance and pride keep us from missing God's blessing in our lives?   Naaman is incredibly grateful for his healing, he recognizes the power of God, and wants to give Elisha all kinds of valuable gifts.  Elisha, in typical true man of God fashion, declines.  But Elisha's servant, Gehazi, overhears and decides he is going to get rich off the whole situation.  Maybe Elisha doesn't want Naaman's gifts but he does!  By this time, Naaman is traveling home.  So Gehazi runs out to him and makes up a story about some prophets who need a talent of silver and two changes of clothes.  Naaman, of course, gives him the supplies.    Elisha knows exactly what happens and he severely scolds Gehazi when he returns.  I don't know, I kind of feel sorry for the guy.  He was probably very poor.  But he did lie and he betrayed Elisha.  Thus, the leprosy that Naaman had was given to Gehazi.  Tough justice.  Greed does not pay.   I would love some of your thoughts on this story.   Blessings, Pastor Vicki
