But our song this week points past David to the coming Messiah:- David is the anointed shepherd who fights and wins the battle Israel cannot, a type of Christ, the Good Shepherd and Anointed One, who saves "not with sword."- Verse 2 sharpens the type: the hunted, already-anointed-but-uncrowned David spares his persecutor and refuses to seize the throne by force ("He spared his pursuer, refusing the crown"). This foreshadows Christ, who would not grasp at power, endured persecution, and forgave from the cross.- The bridge sets the Davidic covenant of 2 Samuel 7 (the established throne, the kingdom of mercy) as God's spoken promise, then names its fulfillment:  "the true Son of David."
