JUNE 18 - Words Matter3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 18:6–7; Psalm 71; Exodus 25//3-Year Bible (Year 1) Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________“A fool’s lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating. A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.” — Proverbs 18:6–7“In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me!” — Psalm 71:1–2“And you shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth.” — Exodus 25:17________________________________________Have you ever said something that you instantly regretted? Proverbs 18:6–7 warns us about the power of our words—how they can cause destruction and even ruin our lives. A fool’s words can lead to conflict, division, and harm. Just as a careless person can talk themselves into trouble, their mouth can also become a trap that causes pain for themselves and others. Sometimes, it’s hard to stop and think before we speak, but the Bible gives us a clear reminder: our words matter. In Psalm 71, the psalmist cries out for God’s protection and rescue. It’s a beautiful example of trusting God, especially when feeling vulnerable or in trouble. When we face moments where our words could bring damage, it’s important to remember to lean on God for strength and wisdom. When we can’t seem to control our mouths, we can always turn to God to help us speak wisely and find refuge in Him.In Exodus 25, God gives specific instructions for building the Ark of the Covenant, with a mercy seat that will rest on top. This is where God will meet His people. It’s a reminder that God’s presence is a place of refuge, where we can find peace and healing. Just as the mercy seat symbolizes God’s presence among His people, we can seek His presence when our words are causing conflict or hurt. God is a place of safety, and we can run to Him for help.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Think Before You Speak: Have you ever noticed the way your words impact your relationships? Are they building others up or tearing them down?2. Running to God: When you face situations where your words could hurt others, how can you ask God for help? Do you trust Him to guide your speech?3. Presence of God: Just like the mercy seat in Exodus represented God’s presence, how can you invite His presence into your life and words today?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEOur words hold power, and with God’s help, we can use them wisely to build others up and reflect His presence.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that my words have the power to bring either life or destruction. Help me to speak with wisdom, kindness, and love. When I feel tempted to speak in anger or foolishness, remind me to seek Your presence and to trust You to guide my words. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
