Trust isn't blind, and it isn't naive. Pastor Mike welcomes first-time guest Jason to dig into what it means to trust wisely — and why your expectations of other people might be the problem. In this episode, Jason joins for the start of a multi-day run, and the two land immediately on a recovery truth: expectations are premeditated resentments. Mike owns how easily setting a heavy expectation on someone becomes an attempt to control the people he loves — and how love and control don't belong in the same sentence. Jason gets honest about his own double-edged struggle: not just placing expectations on everyone, but having a very low tolerance for other people being human, something he fights daily, 200 days into the farthest he's ever made it. They weave it through the program — pause when agitated, progress not perfection, one day at a time — and Jason shares trusting his higher power through his son Jake's job loss in Montana, only to watch a better one open two days later. Mike brings Big Book page 84 and the Step 10 watch-list: selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear — the things that creep in the moment he stops trusting God and starts relying on his own power. Page 63's third-step prayer lands the close: God, I offer myself to Thee, to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
