June 27., 2026 - The Roads, Signals, and Machines That Connected Us

from Wait, That's Random: This Day in History · host C.L. Berns

Saturday, June 27th, 2026 — Today is National Sunglasses Day, which somehow led us to radio signals, cash machines, and Route 66.In this episode, we look at Guglielmo Marconi’s early radio demonstration... the first ATM beginning operation in London... and the day Route 66 was officially removed from the U.S. Highway System, even though it never really left American imagination.Plus, the birthday of J. J. Abrams, whose storytelling career has often been built around mystery, curiosity, and leaving just enough to the imagination.A lot of today’s stories ended up becoming about connection:through signals, through machines, through roads, and through unanswered questions.Anyway… that’s what I ended up finding while working through June 27.
