June 29 - The Anointing

What is the anointing? The word anointing is derived from the word anoint which means to smear (sometimes all over) with, or pour upon, usually, an oily substance. By reason of use, anoint has also been extended to mean to choose someone for a position, like a king, and in some places, such appointments are confirmed by pouring oil on them. For our purpose, we will be looking at anointing with the Holy Ghost. This is smearing or pouring upon the believer the power and outworking of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit is the carrier of the power of God. When The Father gave Him to the church as a gift, He literarily came upon us and filled us up to the overflowing. The outworking of the presence of the Holy Spirit upon and within us is the anointing. The anointing represents the abilities of the Holy Spirit working out through a human vessel.
