June 29 - The Quiet Ripple
from The Daily Ripples Podcast · host Pastor Mike & Corey
You don't have to force impact. A life lived well sends out its own ripples — the ones you'll never fully see. In this solo episode, Corey sits with the quiet, steady kind of influence that doesn't announce itself. Impact does not require force. Real change spreads naturally through a life that is lived well. Corey opens by appreciating the show's own metaphor — the stone that hits the water and makes ripples — and 1 Thessalonians 4:11: make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your hands. He remembers his old friend Doug, who taught him to help someone and not tell anybody about it — to keep his own glass full — and a friend in the recovery field 25 years deep who wants to quit some days, until someone stops him in the Kroger to tell him what he meant to them. The God shots that put him back in the work. Big Book page 130 anchors it: heads in the clouds with God, but feet firmly planted on earth — because that's where our fellow travelers are, and that's where the work must be done. Corey gets honest about the warning a friend gave him once: you sound like you're talking from a place of spiritual arrogance. He never wants to be that. At the end of the day, he's just a drunk trying to stay sober and lead a good life. The teaching high point: page 84's six instructions for when selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear crop up — watch, ask God at once to remove them, discuss them immediately, make amends quickly, turn to someone we can help, and the sixth he'd never connected before, because the paragraph starts with and — we have ceased fighting anything or anyone. Not a promise. An instruction. He closes on his sponsor's Sunday dinners — taken in when he and his significant other might as well have been homeless, shown how to eat like humans, how to pray — and the chance to be that example for someone else now. Consistency speaks louder than words. The Father creates a ripple effect through simple faithfulness.
