June & Delaware Valley Veg - Mission Whole Food Plant Based!!!

from Vyana Cafe Conversations Hosted by June · host Vyana Cafe Conversations Hosted by June

About Delaware Valley VEGWe're helping people make a difference - one bite at a time! Eating more plants is in line with goals and values most of us already have, such as increasing not only our lifespan but our "healthspan", being a good steward of the environment and the planet, and being kind to animals. The first part of our mission is to help people understand how deeply connected diet is to those goals, and how much power we really have to make a difference. For instance, where health is concerned, as the saying goes: Genetics may load the gun, but diet pulls the trigger. We share this information with programs like guest speakers, film watch parties with Q&A panels, "Why Plants?" classes, and field trips to animal sanctuaries. A signature program in development is a dietary immersion where participants will do biometric testing, eat a whole-foods, plant-based diet for 10-12 days, and then repeat biometric testing to see how even such a short time can control risk factors for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other life-style-related diseases. The second part of our mission is to identify and help lower or remove barriers to eating more plants. We do this with programs that help make food choice more equitable and increasing accessibility to whole, nutritious plants foods. We also have programs that teach shopping, weekly food prep, and cooking, We host tasting events so participants can learn more quickly and inexpensively which plant-based milks, cheeses, and meats they prefer. We host a monthly "Dine Around" program in Phoenixville to show residents where and how to eat out if they want to eat plants and not feel deprived. We're working on a "Vegan Outpost" program that will help vegan restaurants and other businesses expand their reach into the Phoenixville area and help make those foods and products more accessible. We'll host our first ThanksLiving event in 2022. We also partner with like-minded companies and nonprofits to support and maximize each other's efforts. Have a collaboration idea? Let us know! To grow into doing all of these things, we need your help and support. Please message us if you'd like to be involved in planning and/or running any of these programs. We want you on our team! If you're too busy for that but would like to know when we need volunteers to help on the day of individual events, please let us know that too. Please follow us on social media and join our email list via our website www.DelawareValleyVEG.org (coming soon). And of course, we need financial support as well.
