Hi and welcome back to the Career Pivot Accelerator. I'm your host Peggy McKnight, your personal career coach and secret weapon to a successful, fulfilling career. Today's episode is anyone who's ready to stop spinning their wheels and start moving forward. We're calling this episode June Clean Your Career.
Reset the path to who you're becoming. And yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's time to shake off what's been weighing you down and realign with the future you want and have always dreamed about. We're halfway through the year and maybe your new year goals feel like a distant memory.
Maybe you never set any because you were too overwhelmed, just trying to survive. Or maybe you're in a season of life where you're being pulled in so many directions. It's hard to even think straight. And honestly, you're doing well to just keep going and just to get out of bed, make yourself a tea or coffee in the morning.
Does that sound familiar? Maybe you're a busy parent juggling drop-offs, sports practices, homework or activities to keep them occupied during a school break. And trying to hold down your career together in between. Or maybe you're like me in a deeply personal season, closing the chapter on your childhood and your parents' home.
It's demanding, it's emotional, and it's necessary. These are the hidden weights we carry into our workday that no performance review ever sees. Because let's be honest, work doesn't care what's going on in your personal life. They want results, which is why we get paid.
So today, we're walking through a process I call the Career Transformation Bridge, a powerful mid-year reflection ritual that'll help you let go of what's outdated or outgrown. Re-imagine where you want to go and re-align with small but mighty moves to get you there. If you're ready, grab a comfy seat and let's step on the bridge together. Step 1 is Awareness.
What's Calling You Quietly? We start with awareness, not the loud kind, not the checklist or the external noise. I'm talking about the quiet pool inside you that you've been too busy or too tired to listen to. I want you to ask yourself, what part of your work still lights you up?
Even just a little glimmer, a little flicker of that flame. What really lights you up? What dream have you been pushing aside because it felt too big or too far away? And where do you feel like you're not fully showing up?
Not because you're lazy or you're procrastinating, but because you're misaligned. This is where the transformation starts, not with blame, not with shame, but with honesty. Really thinking about these questions. So here's something to get those juices flowing.
If I were leading the career I secretly dreamed about, how would I show up this week? Now that might be a little difficult for people who are so frazzled, so overwhelmed, so stretched with the thousand and one things that they have to do day in and day out just to keep their head above water, let alone survive. But if you can take some quiet time at some point today, even if it's before you go to bed at night, ask yourself, if I were leading the career I secretly dreamed about, but how would I show up this week? What would that look like?
And then if you're ready to go to sleep, your mind, your subconscious mind will really start to work on those questions. Step two is release. What's taking up emotional real estate? You can't cross into your next chapter, dragging baggage from the last chapter, so let's work on releasing it.
We're going to let go of the goal you set in January that now feels irrelevant or heavy, or just too far to achieve. Like do you ever feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew? The resentment or self-doubt tied to someone's careless comment. The pressure to do everything perfectly before you're allowed to be seen as a leader.
Let's try this ritual. I want you to write down your releasing beliefs, expectations, even a title or project that no longer fits. And shred it, tear it up, or if it's safe to do so, find a rather big bowl and just one piece of paper and safely burn it. I would recommend stepping outside to do the burning activity because it's a great way to A, get fresh air and B, you are in nature and one with the universe of releasing and burning the things that are holding you down or keeping you from moving forward.
Let it go. Going through this ritual will help you cleanse and release all of that emotional real estate and baggage that is keeping you held down. Even recording a voice memo of yourself saying, I'm done carrying this, can be powerfully symbolic. You're now clearing the space in order to free up yourself from all of the past, all of the things that have been very irrelevant or heavy that have been keeping you held back or held down.
For step two of this exercise, I'd like you to take a moment and ask yourself, what am I holding on to? That deep down I know it's time to release. It could be a belief, a role you've outgrown, or someone's opinion that lives rent-free in your head, or the weight of trying to be everything to everyone. Now's the time to ask yourself, really have a good conversation with yourself.
If I let go of this, what would I finally have room for? Step three, rewrite. Who are you becoming? Now that you've cleared the clutter, we can write a new vision.
Let's get really vivid with this one. What does your ideal workday look like in the next season of your career? What kind of conversations are you having? Who's in the room with you?
What are people coming to you for advice on, help, or support? What kinds of people are in the room? Are they supportive? What kinds of conversations do they have with you?
Really start to map that out. But let me be clear, you don't need a map for the next five years. You just need to give your future self something to work toward. So don't put a timeline on it.
Just map it out what it looks like, what you're trying to shape in your mind's eye. Then what you focus on will really come to fruition. Might not be overnight, but eventually it will get there. So here's what I would like you to keep in mind.
If I already had the job, career, or lifestyle I crave, what decision would I make this week to get me there? Or just in general, what decision would I make this week? Sometimes your next best move isn't a promotion. It's a boundary, or an idea shared, or a decision made from confidence instead of fear.
So just a recap, if I already had the job, career, or lifestyle I crave, what decision would I make this week? And finally, step four, realignment, taking one brave step. This is where we stop thinking, dreaming, or romanticizing change and start activating it. You've already done the hardest part, telling the truth about what you want.
Now it's time to move with intention. Realignment doesn't mean burning everything down. For some people it might do, but for most people it doesn't. It means booking a 15 minute coffee chat with someone you admire.
Saying no to a project that dilutes your energy, blocking off time for your professional growth. Here's a reminder, you're not starting over, you're starting from experience. Every bold move you make, no matter how small, builds your future identity. Step by step, one step at a time, one little bit at a time, one tiny move, one alignment action at a time.
That's what gets you to where you want to go. That's how you build your future self in the career bridge that you see ahead of you and think, how the heck do I get there? By going through this four step process, it will get you there. It's not going to be rapid fire, voila, presto bingo, I'm here, I've arrived today.
But little bit by bit, it will get you there. My friend, if there's any words of wisdom I can share with you, it's this. You weren't meant to live your career in survival mode. You were meant to lead, to influence, to contribute in meaningful ways.
But to do that, you have to let go of the noise and tune into your next chapter. This June, give yourself permission to reset, reflect, release, reimagine and re-align. And if you're ready to take that clarity even further, or if, for some reason, the work and these exercises in this particular podcast have been so heavy that you still cannot see the wood for the trees and you are still blocked or stuck, I want to invite you to join my Elevate membership. I'd love to hear from you. I would love to work with you on that next career move that you have always dreamt about, but just can't figure out how the heck am I going to get there, because there are so many blocks or so many barriers, not only in your mind, but also in front of you physically. Let's work on that together. Because if there is one thing that I've learned in this chapter of my life, you cannot go it alone.
You have to have help and support from others. And sometimes the support around you, a family member of friends, is just not helping you or serving you for where you want to go. And that's okay. They still love you.
But they are looking at you through a lens in a different way, which can sometimes not be very helpful, especially when you want to move forward, but just don't know how. Let's work together. And let's figure it out. We will figure it out.
Alright, my friend, please reach out info at pegymeconite.com. I'd love to hear from you. This is your moment. This is your reset.
And I'll be right here cheering you on. Until next time, keep showing up as the leader you're becoming. Until next time, my friend. Bye for now.
