Junkyard Fire Forces Suspension
from Newark News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Camden has slapped a 30-day suspension on Eastern Metal Recycling after a fire linked to lithium-ion batteries, halting all waste processing while allowing removal of already processed materials to reduce future fire risks. Residents have long blamed the junkyard’s smoke for health problems, and city and county officials are pushing for permanent closure, citing severe air quality concerns. This isn’t the first blaze — a February 2025 fire forced evacuations — and community members say the suspension is inadequate, demanding stricter oversight and a full shutdown. New Jersey is also suing the company, seeking court-ordered safety measures to prevent future fires. Support the show: Get a discount at https://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
