Jurisdiction, Data and the State

In this episode, I open by reflecting on what I see as a growing public demand for accountability across government, the courts and public bodies, before the conversation turns to a long and passionate discussion about the Colonial Courts of Admiralty Act 1890 and other historic statutes that the panel believe still shape modern governance and legal process. We also touch on Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, Companies Act 2006, the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953, the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights as part of a wider argument about jurisdiction, state power and the language of law.In the second half, Andy joins me for an urgent discussion about schools, children’s data and biometrics. We talk through concerns around school data-sharing, safeguarding systems, cloud platforms, behaviour monitoring, subject access requests, and what parents can do if they want to challenge consent, data retention or processing.
