Jury Awards Our Teenage Client $250,000 After Spine Injury From Car Wreck

from After the Accident · host Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers

Our client was ten years old when the car he was in t-boned the front driver door of a construction vehicle after attempting to cross our client's lane of travel. Following a cervical MRI and neurosurgery consultation, our client was diagnosed with two ligament tears. He was fitted with a cervical collar that he was required to wear at all times for eight weeks. Thankfully, the ligament tears healed and his cervical spine was overall stable. However, our client was given the unfortunate news that he would forever be at an increased risk for a more severe cervical injury. The neurosurgeon advised that our client refrain from all contact sports. Our client had been an active child who played organized basketball and football prior to his wreck. In order to secure the compensation we knew our client deserved, we filed suit against the construction company, its employee-driver, and our client’s host driver.Eventually, a two-day jury trial was had in the Norfolk Circuit Court. After over four hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict in favor of our client against the construction company and employee-driver in the amount of $250,000, a staggering 10x the amount of the insurance company's original offer. We are proud to have secured this verdict for our young client. While it's rare for personal injury cases to go all the way to court, it is important that your attorney has the litigation experience and resources to take your case to trial if the insurance company isn't playing fair.
