Just a Decade

My name is Decade Anne Frey-Shorrock. I'm a 35-year-old mother, musician and small-time record producer. I live with my partner, Pete and 3-year-old son, Glenn in Avoca, a country town in Central Victoria, Australia. I have several passions in life: I'm a foodie, as well as a lover of coffee, tea, aromatherapy, fragrances -- basically all things that stimulate all the senses! Ironically, I'm totally blind, but also have a love of cars of all ages, eras and styles! My biggest life-long passion, however, is music. I play a variety of instruments, including piano and keys, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, piano accordion and guitar. My niche is bass guitar, but I'm also trying to learn techniques for both bowing and plucking on upright bass. I love a wide variety of musical genres from the 50's to the 90's inclusive, but nothing mainstream from the last 22 years or so. My biggest musical passion is classic rock from those decades. I can't name a favourite band, as I have too many, but they range from the likes of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Little River Band, the Eagles and Skyhooks, to Status Quo, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, right through to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Metallica. I've played bass and sang harmony and some lead in several bands over the last 12 or so years, performing classic rock, pop, country and folk. I'm currently in a band called the Chovies, which features drums, bass, acoustic guitar, banjo and 3 vocals. I don't generally work as a solo performer, but am comfortable providing vibes and background piano music for occasions such as art shows and fundraising get-togethers. My partner and I have our own PA and lights. Pete's in charge of the technical side, while I provide the music! We also have our own semi-professional home recording studio and are in the process of promoting as an official business. It's called B Flat studios, (it's written as a musical note, but I'm not quite sure how to do that!) We have recorded many songs over the last 10 years, both as solo arrangements and with two of my bands. All except one are covers.
