Just Give In

from Creative Overflow with Jenny Kiehn · host Jennykiehn

When there is something you really want to do, just give in and do it. You can kid yourself that some other option is going to be safer, but usually that isn't really true. The thing you really want to do is probably a much safer bet. It's probably the most economic option too. Lately, I've been wanting to just paint clouds. I don't want to paint lots of water or trees. I just want to paint clouds. So this week, after finishing that huge commission, I started painting a big cloud painting that I chose. Now, after only a few days, it's over half done. It looks great and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Now I'm starting to realize that when I paint what I really want to paint, I'm faster, the painting feels more alive, and I can pump the paintings out. When I paint things I don't really want to paint, I'm slower and it feels more like work. I start wondering how I can ever paint enough paintings to support my family. The thing I love is also better for business. Whatever feels easiest is better for business. Whatever feels like a relief is better for business. In the episode I also refer to The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield. If you haven't read it, then do. I think it's the most important book creative people can read. It's about how to get around Resistance and all the sneaky forms it comes in.I also refer to this wonderful interview clip by Devon Rodriguez. If you liked this episode, definitely leave a review so other people can find the show. If you take a screenshot of it and email it to [email protected] then I'll invite you to my next free coaching class. My specialty is helping you develop an abundant mindset so you can build your creative business in ease, peace and joy. If you join my Creative Abundance Circle which meets once a week, I'll of course share all the marketing knowledge I know, but my main gift is helping you relax and lean into your gifts so the strategies will work.Email me at [email protected] for more info about the Creative Abundance Circle.See you next Friday!
