Justice Demanded for Asia Bennett | Jacksonville News

A 22-year-old woman, Asia Bennett, was fatally shot by Jacksonville police during a domestic violence call — her family and attorney Ben Crump are demanding justice, calling the killing “completely unjustifiable.” Bodycam footage shows Bennett surrendering a knife after being told to drop it, yet she was struck twice, including a fatal shot to the back as she was on her hands and knees. Crump argues deadly force was never justified, citing her history of abuse and the lack of de-escalation. The Sheriff’s Office is withholding further comment due to pending litigation, while the State Attorney’s Office conducts an independent investigation. A vigil honored Bennett’s memory and spotlighted the urgent need for systemic change in how domestic violence is handled.
