K Karpen: "Who Do You Say You Are" (Sermon for August 23, 2026)

Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” - Matthew 16:15The question that Jesus asks his disciples one day at Caesarea Philippi is something we who follow Jesus still ask ourselves. Who is Jesus for us, and who is Jesus to us? How we grapple with that question says a lot about the sort of Christian we are trying to be.Actually, Jesus' question "Who do you say that I am?" may lead to the more existential question: Who do you say that you are? We live at a moment in time when 'Christian' is so often worn  as an identity, rather than taken as a calling to live a life acted out in love. The claims we make for Jesus say as much about us, as they do about Jesus.Who do you say you are? Come this Sunday, and we'll consider that together.K
