The door opened, and a woman named Ursula Cotta invited Martin inside. She saw something special in this poor young boy. She welcomed him into her home and cared for him like a son. With this new care and encouragement, Martin became an excellent student. He loved languages, music, and poetry. His teachers saw great potential in him. One professor heard Martin speak and recognized that there was something special about him. He encouraged Martin to continue his education at the University of Erfurt. Martin eventually went to Erfurt, where he studied very hard and earned his degrees. Then, in 1504, while traveling home, he accidentally wounded himself with his sword. During the night, the bleeding started from the wound, and Martin became terrified. Thinking he might die, he prayed to the Virgin Mary. All his learning had not led him to the knowledge of Jesus who came into the world to save mankind!
