Kamala Harris visits the Rio Grande Valley of Texas

EDINBURG, Texas - With pollsters moving Texas into the “toss up” category, Kamala Harris was in the Rio Grande Valley on Friday.The Democratic Party nominee for Vice President of the United States gave a campaign speech at UT-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg. Earlier in the day she spoke in Houston and Fort Worth. The significance of the Valley visit is that the region, at the southmost tip of Texas, is heavily Hispanic and opinion polls have suggested that President Trump is making inroads into this demographic. Harris aimed to excite a traditionally Democratic stronghold. Some opinion polls have the presidential race tied in Texas. Others have Trump ahead but with the percentage lead within in the margin of error. Democrats are excited because turnout is high. They believe this favors them. This year’s early vote came close to equaling the entire vote in Texas in 2016. In 2016 some eight million voters cast ballots.
