Rund 150 Millionen Tonnen Plastik haben sich schon in den Meeren weltweit angesammelt - und es wird täglich mehr. Kunststoffreste und Mikroplastik finden sich nicht nur an Stränden und den in Strudeln treibenden Müllteppichen im Meer, sondern inzwischen sogar am Meeresboden der Arktis. Bis 2024 will die UN ein Internationales Abkommen gegen Plastikmüll verabschieden. In Uruguay treffen sich erstmals Regierungsdelegationen, um Eckpunkte des Abkommens auszuhandeln.
