The team relocated to Kansas City in 1963 and adopted the name "Chiefs" in honor of Kansas City Mayor Harold Roe Bartle, aka “The Chief,” who played a key role in bringing the team to the city.3. **AFC’s First Black Quarterback**:In 1969, the Chiefs made history by starting Marlin Briscoe at quarterback for one game, making him the first Black quarterback to play in an AFL or AFC game.
