Kansas State May Have Already FIXED Its Biggest Concern

Kansas State's offensive line might be MUCH further along than we expected. That was one of my biggest takeaways from Collin Klein's Monday press conference following the Wildcats' 71-3 win over Nicholls. The offensive line entered this season with legitimate questions. John Pastore is out. Tanner Morley has been working his way back. Ryan Howard was stepping into a massive opportunity at left tackle. And after one game? The early returns are extremely encouraging. Klein praised the protection and said Kansas State didn't have a missed assignment up front. Ryan Howard handled every snap with the starters. Charlie Adams impressed. And the Wildcats consistently created movement at the line of scrimmage. Yes. It was Nicholls. We're going to keep saying that. But Washington State is about to give us a much better idea of whether Kansas State has actually answered one of its biggest offseason questions. We also learned more about the running back competition. Rodney Fields may have been the biggest surprise of Week 1, but Klein isn't committing to predetermined carry totals between Fields, Joe Jackson and Jay Harris. Could Kansas State simply ride the hot hand? Then we turn to the defense. Despite allowing only three points, Klein wasn't completely satisfied. Tackling needs to improve. Eye discipline needs to improve. And those issues become much more important against a mobile Washington State quarterback this weekend. Plus, we've got injury updates on Tanner Morley and Makai Mason as Kansas State prepares for its first FBS opponent of the Collin Klein era. Morley continues to make gradual progress with no setbacks. Mason's situation sounds better than initially feared, but his availability against Washington State remains a question. Week 1 gave Kansas State plenty of reasons for optimism.
