Kant's Last Words: A Conversation with Dr. Terry D. Thomson

from Acid Horizon · host Acid Horizon

Today we’re joined by Dr Terry D. Thomson to discuss his work on Kant’s final, most esoteric, and most understudied philosophical work—his “chief achievement” as he called it—the Opus Postumum. This text is Kant’s attempt to radicalize his own philosophical process, rending the project of his three critiques from their ossifications as dogmas, and opening up a new space for the philosophy of experience—on the ontological, anthropological, and cosmological level, in the promise of an absolute system of ethereal forces. Terry joins us fresh from completing his doctoral thesis on the Opus Postumum And, using the work of Kant scholar Howard Caygill as a base, together we’re going to be pushing to the very limits of transcendental Idealism, in pursuit of the cosmic force of human experience. Other thinkers in the discussion include Deleuze, Hegel, Schelling, Lichtenberg, Spinoza. You can find more of Terry's work here: https://kingston.academia.edu/TerrenceThomsonContribute to Acid Horizon: https://www.patreon.com/acidhorizonpodcastSubscribe to us on Apple Podcasts: https://tinyurl.com/169wvvhi Happy Hour at Hippel's (Adam’s blog): https://happyhourathippels.wordpress.comNew Revolts (Matt’s Blog): https://newrevolts.com/Revolting Bodies (Will's Blog): https://revoltingbodies.comSplit Infinities (Craig’s Substack): https://splitinfinities.substack.com/Music: https://sereptie.bandcamp.com/Merch Store: http://www.crit-drip.comSupport the showSupport the podcast:AHRCCurrent classes at Acid Horizon Research Commons (AHRC): acidhorizonresearchcommons.comAHRC Course Archive: https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/ahrc-course-archivesSubmit your course proposal: [email protected] LinksWebsite: https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/Linktree: https://linktr.ee/acidhorizonAcid Horizon on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acidhorizonpodcastBoycott Watkins Media: https://xenogothic.com/2025/03/17/boycott-watkins-statement/Subscribe to us on your favorite podcast: https://pod.link/1512615438Merch: http://www.crit-drip.comSubscribe to us on your favorite podcast platform: https://pod.link/1512615438LEPHT HAND: https://www.patreon.com/LEPHTHANDHappy Hour at Hippel's (Adam’s blog): https://happyhourathippels.wordpress.comSplit Infinities (Craig’s Substack): https://splitinfinities.substack.com/Music: https://sereptie.bandcamp.com/ and https://thecominginsurrection.bandcamp.com/

Now a daily show, it's evolved into a chronicle of collapse as it happens, and an exploration of how we might build a better future. Every day Robert Evans, Garrison Davis, Mia Wong, and James Stout take you on a jaunty walk through the burning ruins of the old world and towards a better one that lays just on the horizon. Explicit That Happens Disastrophy Audio “What am I?” The podcast trudges on through oblivion. Gone are the days of Jeff and Spencer’s asinine jokery, That Happens chronicles the slow deconstruction of the man Patton Oswalt once hailed as having “incredible comedic timing.” Ranting uninterrupted about daily political minutia or tiktok trends, Spencer occasionally breaks down and questions his life, podcast, and reality itself, as Kevin smiles, pained, trying to pull the show back onto the rails with a listener question or quick-fire rhetorical premise. What was is gone, and what’s left is bitter, battery acid-flavored reality. That Happens. Explicit
