Kant's philosophy - The mediation of the dispute between empiricism and rationalism

The intellect is described by Kant as the faculty of concepts. These concepts however are divided into two classes: empirical concepts and pure concepts, the latter can still be sensual despite their purity or they can be pure intellectual concepts, also called notions or intellectualia. The origin of those is the topic of an old debate in philosophy: Do they originate in the senses as the empiricists claim or in the intellect as the rationalists teach? As in other questions too, Kant is a on the side of rationalism but a rationalism corrected by empiricism into a subjective and critical rationalism.
