Kant's philosophy - What is experience?

An important insight of Kant’s is that we don’t have experience, we make it. It is empirical cognition. As such it is rooted in sensuality, but isn’t solely sensual. A mere sensual perception would be blind, we wouldn’t know what it is that we’re perceiving. Experience only comes about by the intellect connecting several perceptions and bringing synthetic unity into them. This act of understanding or of intellection is the third of the synthetic acts of the intellect, after apperception and apprehension.
