Alongside the beautiful Kant describes another kind of aesthetical pleasure: That in the sublime, that which is large and terrible beyond scale. Through that it may be unpurposive for us as sensual beings, but this shows us our own purposiveness as supersensual creatures and reminds us of our freedom to stay steadfast, true to our principles and firm in our character, even in the face of our physical demise.
