I 2009 begår Anna Libaks lillebror selvmord. Han har i mange år været psykotisk, og derfor er overraskelsen er ikke stor. Det er sorgen til gengæld. Hun tror ikke, at hun nogensinde kan blive glad igen, og det gør det ikke bedre, at hendes mor bebrejder hende brorens død. Otte år senere dør Annas far. Der er ingen sorg, men til gengæld en ny erkendelse. Da Anna Libak skal tømme hans hjem, finder hun en stor mængde tomme pilleglas. Først der går det op for hende, at hendes far også var psykotisk. Efter hans død ser hun ham i et andet lys. Efter Annas mor er blevet dement, må hun også her justere på det billede, hun har haft af sin mor.
