Doddsy is the definition of a triple threat in football having been a professional player, transitioned into a Head S&C coach as part of a high performance team and is now an internationally acclaimed Head Coach. If that wasn’t enough he has also worked in higher education for several universities in Australia, holds multiple degrees and is currently completing a PhD. Some of the sporting organisations he has worked with include A-League clubs Newcastle Jets and Brisbane Roar FC, FIFA and is one of few Australians who have held head coaching positions with a national football team outside of Australia. With Doddsy’s unique and versatile background he is well positioned to provide insight into the world of professional sport from a variety of perspectives.  Highlights from the episode…Doddsy’s story of a how a naive Gold Coast boy who initially studied civil engineering then went on to play professional football. After sustaining  2 ACL injuries this was the genesis of exploring the field of coaching. After a successful playing career Doddsy transitioned into an S&C coach with the Newcastle Jets in the A League. Doddsy talks about his transition into his first Head Coaching role and the lessons he learnt with working with a new club and how to build a successful culture. Why “collective thinking” is far more important than specialised skill sets in sport. Doddsy and I talk shop for a minute about our experience around building culture and what we found were good and bad examples.After a short stint as Head of High performance at the Brisbane Roar FC Doddsy shares how he got the opportunity with the Guam National team as the Head Coach.He gives insights to what is involved as a national team head coach for entire country. The importance of putting yourself in environments where you can gain practical experience through the avenue of making mistakes safely.Doddsy shares his decision making process when moving into different roles with different sporting organisations.  There are 2 things that Doddsy looks for in a person as a Head Coach and when hiring his backroom staff 1). Are you a good person and 2)….I provide some tips on how to climb any hierarchical ladder.
