Katie and Margaux: We Have Never NOT Known Each Other…

from Hello Again, Friend · host Hello Again, Friend

Lifelong friends, Katie and Margaux, share what life is like having a friend who is always there for you (and has always been there!) - without question. This week, Emily and Meredith have a big-feel experience speaking with lifelong friends, Katie and Margaux. Less than one year apart in age and connected by two mothers who made a concerted effort to maintain their own friendship, which ultimately led to an inter-generational history of friendships between mothers and children. From mischief to major milestones, Katie and Margaux re-lived some of their favorite moments with us. We giggled and grinned as we opened an email filled with photographs commemorating their decades together. Then we stumbled across a copy of a handwritten letter Katie sent to Margaux for Margaux’s 18th birthday (that’s how we did things BEFORE THE INTERNET). We marveled at the pure love reflected in her recollection of memories and advice. Margaux showed Katie the world of Six Flags over Georgia with vigor and zeal, and Katie described the beauty of having another person in your life who allows you to be yourself without judgment. As children, we need that unconditional acceptance for us to “try on” each part of our personality as we figure ourselves out.  Katie helped Margaux forget about the rules of life by “getting lost” in adventure; keeping each other safe while they throw off the structure placed on them by Southern culture. Emotional risks, physical risks, no matter what–they would do it together. Through Katie and Margaux, we learn the value of,  “Of course I’ll be there.” They endured (and are enduring) difficult experiences of moving away, health diagnoses, aging parents, and raising their own children now. They were each other’s first phone calls…they opened the door to find the other standing there, ready to help. Of course the other would be there to support the other. No question. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Generally American (A Journey in American English) Christopher M.
