Kaya Confederacy

In this episode, we explore the Kaya Confederacy, an ancient Korean political entity that thrived in the southern Korean Peninsula from around 42 to 562 CE. Emerging from the earlier Byeonhan confederacy, Kaya became known for its iron production and active trade networks reaching Japan and beyond. The episode examines its network of semi-independent statelets, the shifting alliances with neighboring Baekje and the Kingdom of Wa, and the confederacy's eventual annexation by Silla. We also address the long-debated Mimana (Imna) controversy and how modern scholarship has dismissed the claim of a Japanese colonial presence in the region.
