from Highway 89

Did Sergei Rachmaninoff write a cello sonata OR a piano sonata with cello accompaniment? It depends on which instrument you play! In this episode Kayson Brown (cello) and Larry Gee (piano) chat with Steven Kapp Perry (host) about their 13 year collaboration, Rachmaninoff, and Olivier Messiaen’s writings from a WW II prisoner-of-war camp. Repertoire: 1) Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata 2) 5th mvt “Praise to the Eternity of Jesus” from Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” KAYSON BROWN is the founder of the annual Lyceum Summer Music Festival and director of the American Heritage Lyceum Orchestras Program where he oversees five youth orchestras.
