Keep Pulling | Jeremiah 38:1-13 - Clint Leavitt

from Midtown Presbyterian Church · host Midtown Presbyterian Church

What do we do when things fall apart? The way we answer this question shows us the truth of who we are. We all look great when things are comfortable. It’s in the times of challenge, when the building is burning down around us, when all that we’ve held onto dissolves in our arms, that our true allegiance, our true character, our true identity get revealed. Listen as Pastor Clint explores the story of Ebed-melech, an Ethiopian man who provides an example of what faithfulness to God looks like in the midst of a world falling apart: being responsive, resourceful, and resolute. Sermon Resources: 1. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” -Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2. “They [the officials] kept trying to find ways to avoid the reality of judgment, to think in other categories than those of right and wrong, sin and irresponsibility. One of their substitute ways of thinking was in terms of loyalty and disloyalty. Patriotism was used to muddle the sense of morality: “Our beloved country is being attacked and we must be loyal to it; in times of crisis it is not right to criticize your leaders. It is disloyal, an act of treachery.” Using nationalist language is far easier than taking responsibility for righteousness in the nation. Far easier to shout patriotic slogans than to work patriotically for justice.” -Eugene Peterson, "Run With The Horses" Join us below: Facebook: www.facebook.com/midtownpreschurch Instagram: www.instagram.com/midtown.pres Website: www.midtownpres.org Community Groups: www.midtownpres.org/community-groups Sunday Services: www.midtownpres.org
