What this episode covers
Kelly Cardenas is a FORBES contributor, Author, Podcaster, Founder-CEO of a National multi-million dollar Brand, and a Cultural efficiency Coach. For over 20 years, he’s taught as a National Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems. He’s also worked alongside, opened, and directed salons for the Global Artistic Director of Paul Mitchell, and has given a unique perspective of elite service in the professional beauty industry. Kelly is a true man of the people, and his favorite thing about his work isn’t the hair– it’s the opportunity to work through hair to reach and connect with people. This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s: Kelly’s father bought a personal development course and would have Kelly and his brothers listen to the tapes and write ten pages of notes a day before they could go outside and play. Kelly’s parents bought his first pair of clippers to cut their dog’s hair. After that didn’t work, he eventually ended up cutting friend’s hair early on. A mentor of Kelly’s, John Paul, remembers the name of all the people he meets. When asked how he does it, he says that he stays grateful. In a single day where his director decided to quit, Kelly’s entire crew walked out the door on a million dollar business, forcing him to take a hard look in the mirror. In the end, Kelly took responsibility in an admirable way and saw it as his employees leaving him rather than the business, and figured out a way to grow from it. Kelly is big on culture, and he defines it as “an environment for sustainable growth.” To further that point he explains that culture is what you do, not what you say. So in order to correct a bad culture, you’ve got to change the way you act.
