Kemal's Story

In this episode of Blocked Britain, we meet Kemal, a 31-year-old from Peckham in London who wanted to train as a nurse but found his path blocked by central government decisions. Despite living in one of England's most deprived areas where healthcare needs are acute, Kemal discovered that HM Treasury's spending constraints had limited the training places available through Health Education England. The capacity to train more healthcare workers exists, and people like Kemal are ready to fill these vital roles, but Westminster chose to treat public investment in NHS workforce development as a cost to be minimised rather than recognising it as essential infrastructure.
