Kemal's Story
from Blocked Britain · host Blocked Britain
In this episode of Blocked Britain, we meet Kemal, a 26-year-old from Barking in East London who wanted to train as a nurse to serve his community. Barking sits in England's second-most deprived decile, where NHS services are stretched thin and local residents face significant health inequalities. Kemal was ready to commit years to training, but Health Education England's budget constraints meant fewer training places were funded than people were willing to fill. HM Treasury's spending limits treat public investment in healthcare workers as a cost to minimize, rather than the pathway to getting trained staff onto wards that desperately need them. This is a story about political choices disguised as resource shortages. Blocked Britain is produced independently and receives no government funding.
