Kenilworth Chapter XXIII

In which the Countess, recovering from a poisonous draught administered by a villainous attendant, resolves to flee her perilous confinement with the aid of her devoted maid Janet and a mysterious guide, embarking upon a secret and difficult escape under the cover of night. Their flight leads them through shadowed paths and uncertain terrain, towards the imminent courts and revels of Kenilworth, where hope and danger alike await.
