Kenilworth Chapter XXVIII
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which the restless Tressilian, descending a winding staircase, encounters the brazen Michael Lambourne, whose coarse familiarity and veiled insinuations stir his indignation though he restrains himself for Amy's sake. A wary uneasy truce is forged between them as Lambourne, emboldened by his bribe, hints at lurking dangers and the fragile secrecy surrounding Tressilian's lodgings within the lordly castle.
