Kerry Docherty: Faherty Co-Founder, Author

One of three founders of Faherty, the clothing and lifestyle brand that blends surf style with attention to top quality fabrics and social and environmental values---shaken together with eclectic beach house vibes, is Kerry Docherty. She joined two brothers in this endeavor (one of whom is her husband, Alex), from the brand’s very beginning. The integrity they bring to their scrappy story is exceptional. And an inspiration. The story of Faherty brand, the story of a family business, the story of Kerry as writer, an intellectual, a feminist, an activist, a co-founder, a wife, a mother--- is told, with stunning radical honesty, in her book aptly titled ‘Selfish’. Here on Story + Rain Talks episode 178 we get into it all, including the radical connection she is experiencing through her book’s readers. We get really real about motherhood. She shares great advice for founders and entrepreneurs. We discuss stepping into her new daily identity as published author, and how memoirs, inherently, are acts of betrayal. I found that her memoir, in its storytelling and detail, reads much like a novel, and I discovered, during this conversation, that Kerry does have a novel in the works.
