Kevin McGonigle’s Rookie Surge | Detroit Tigers News

Kevin McGonigle is rewriting Detroit Tigers history with a rookie season for the ages—already third in MLB in WAR, hitting .283 with 13 homers and 56 RBIs while tying Lou Whitaker and Nick Castellanos for eighth in franchise rookie hits. The first Tigers rookie since Castellanos to hit that mark, he’s on track to join elite company like Al Kaline and Miguel Cabrera—and could even crack the rare 200-hit club. Signed to an eight-year, $150M extension, McGonigle’s defense and power are making him a cornerstone of this young team, though he’ll have to battle stiff competition from Murakami and Messick for ROY.
