Sacha Stern introduces and sums up the results of a 5-year research project at UCL, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), on ‘Calendars in late Antiquity and the Middle Ages: Standardization and Fixation’. The overarching question of the project: how Roman, Christian, Jewish, and Islamic calendars evolved, in late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, towards ever increasing standardization and fixation is discussed.
