Ki Savo: The Challenge and Opportunity of Maturing into Adulthood

 This shiur will trace in our parsha the culmination of ‘’MishnaTorah,’’ a new relationship to Torah relevant to the Jewish people now, after theyhave matured over forty years in the dessert. They have now ‘’come of age’’ andare ready to assume responsibility for the Torah as their own. This isreflected by the characteristic of Mishna Torah as ‘’The Torah Sheba’l Peh(Within Torah Shebekesav),’’ i.e. a Torah of creativity forged by the people’s initiative.Hashem trusts us to maintain fidelity to His Torah, even as we developit for ourselves; He is like the father who trusts his adult child to upkeepingthe values of his chinuch even as the child pursues his own destiny.
