from News For Kids · host ICRT

Guys! Be careful… That's an African clawed frog! That thing's a killer! RUN!!! Phew! Those frogs are very scary! They eat any animal they can. ANY animal! Listen to this scientist… Scientist: "I haven't found anything they won't eat… bugs and snails, tadpoles, other frogs, small fish… anything! Left alone… they would kill everything until you'd only find the clawed frog left. Then they'd begin eating each other." African clawed frogs have long, sharp claws. They use them to rip up other animals! In just 4 months this killer frog can lay thousands of eggs. The eggs turn into tadpoles. Some tadpoles become frog food… These frogs smell very bad! They taste bad too.So no other animals eat them. They're hard to catch. They're really fast swimmers. They can hold their breath for a loooong time. And they can swim backwards! North Carolina is a state in the USA. It thinks this frog is very, very scary. It's illegal to have an African clawed frog in North Carolina. So if you live in North Carolina, or anywhere, stay away from African clawed frogs! ________________________________ Vocabulary 這種青蛙侵略性太強,已經成為禍害。 1) African 非洲的 Africa… I've only read about it in books. Yeah? This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
