Kindness

We have been created to bear fruit as we keep in step with the Holy Spirit. Kindness is not weakness of conviction, but an expression of love ("love is kind" 1 Cor. 13:4) flowing from a heart posture of compassion. David showed extravagant kindness to Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:1-13), where none would have been expected. Jesus shows us a more extravagant kindness in the gospel (Eph. 2:4-7; Titus 3:4-7), one that is meant to lead us to repentance (Rom. 2:4). As people identified with Jesus, we are empowered by the Spirit to show kindness where expected (to one another, Eph. 4:32) and where none would be expected (to our enemies, Luke 6:34-36).
