King Arthur: The Complete Story Of The Legend of Camelot and the Fall of the Round Table | Arthurian Legend for Sleep

from Mythology And Folklore For Sleep · host The Sleepy Mythkeeper

King Arthur: The Complete Story Of The Legend of Camelot and the Fall of the Round Table | Arthurian Legend for SleepA slow, quiet retelling of the whole Arthurian legend, from the sword to the last battle, made for falling asleep to.The complete story of Camelot and how it came apart, told at a pace that's deliberately too slow to follow properly. That's the point. You're not meant to reach the end.It begins before he does — with a deception arranged by a magician, a child handed over and raised by somebody else entirely, and a boy who pulled something out of a stone without understanding what he was doing. What follows is everything built on top of that. A kingdom assembled out of a country that had been at war with itself. A table made round so that nobody sat at the head of it. The best knights anyone had ever seen, and a court that people still use as shorthand for the best of anything. And then the long, slow undoing: a quest that emptied the hall and killed most of the men who went on it, a friendship that couldn't survive what was going on underneath it, a son who should never have existed, and a last battle on a field where a misunderstanding over a drawn sword ended everything. He is carried off at the end to an island, not quite dead, which is the part everyone chooses to remember. But the point of this recording isn't really the story. It's the hour or two spent drifting through it. The voice stays low and even the whole way through. No music, no sound effects, nothing that rises or drops or suddenly arrives. Every sentence sits at roughly the same level as the one before it, so nothing ever pulls your attention back up to the surface. That's what makes it work on the nights when your head won't switch off. It's just interesting enough to give your thoughts something to hold, and slow enough that they let go of it on their own. You don't have to follow along. You don't have to remember any of it in the morning. If you drift off somewhere before the sword comes out of the stone and wake up much later, long after the court has emptied, you've used this exactly the way it's meant to be used. Most people don't make it past the first half hour, and the rest will still be here tomorrow night.Put it on, turn the volume down, and let it go on without you.Mythology & Folklore for Sleep — long, calm retellings of Greek myths, Norse legends, Egyptian tales, Hindu epics, Chinese classics, Arthurian legend and old folklore from around the world, made for insomnia and the hours when you can't sleep.
