King Charles Visits Wildfire Grounds | Belfast News

King Charles made a powerful visit to the Cairngorms, honoring firefighters and volunteers who battled a devastating wildfire that scorched 3,300 hectares and forced evacuations. He praised their courage while spotlighting climate change as a growing threat, linking extreme heat and drought to more frequent disasters. The trip also unveiled a historic partnership between Scotland’s Cairngorms and Virginia’s Shenandoah National Parks, symbolized by a shared granite slab from Appalachia — a geological bond stretching back 250 million years. Officials say the King’s presence boosted awareness of recovery efforts and underscored the urgent need for collective action against climate-driven extremes, reminding communities of their resilience and the critical path forward.
