King Coal Book 2 - The Serfs of King Coal; Sections 7-8

In which the young miner Hal enters the company store and engages in a candid conversation with local men about the corrupt political control held by the coal company, revealing the tangled loyalties and subtle threats that govern their small town. He then helps organise a secret meeting of workers determined to demand a check-weighman, where hesitant but resolute men of many nationalities begin to bind themselves into a precarious fellowship of resistance.
