King: Valley schools have done well but there is still a long way to go

PHARR, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley has done exceptionally well in moving from the top to the bottom in the statewide averages for K-12 education. However, there is still a long way to go. This is the view of Dr. Daniel P. King, executive director of Region One Education Service Center. King gave the opening remarks at a recent RGV Focus retreat. It was held at the Pharr Development and Research Center. King pointed out that metropolitan areas bigger than the Valley, such as Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, have much more corporate wealth and some of that wealth bolsters the revenues of school districts in those cities.
