King's Quest (Original AGI Version)

from Sequelcast 2 and Friends Hosted by Mat Bradley-Tschirgi

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and Thrasher discuss the original version of King's Quest. Developed originally for the IBM PC Jr., this was Sierra's first game with the AGI engine that allowed players to control their avatar (in this case, Graham) with a keyboard or joystick. Users still had to use a text parser to type in commands. While King's Quest is simple with its "fetch me 3 items" quest, its nods to Western fairy tales and the open world to explore have genuine charms. Cheap Rumpelstiltskin puzzle aside, King's Quest is worth a play to see where the roots of 1990s adventure gaming began. Warning: this game contains frustrating stairs and beanstalks to climb.
