Greatly underrated and appreciated, Kitchens of Distinction were painted with a broad brush by critics at the time. Critics at the time pigeonholed the group as a "gay band" due to frontman Patrick Fitzgerald being publicly out at the time, and his lyrics that didn't shy from the subject matter.
