Welcome to Kitzur Yomi with Yossi!In today's episode, the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch teaches that in the case of an infant, once children of that age are capable of eating a kezayis of grain-based food within the time it takes an adult to eat a pras, we must distance ourselves from the child's excrement and urine before reciting holy words.The Kitzur adds that even regarding a newborn infant only eight days old, it is preferable to be careful and avoid being near the infant's excrement when learning Torah, davening, or reciting berachos.At first glance, this halacha appears to be about the laws of cleanliness and the status of an infant.But the Torah is teaching us something much deeper:Spiritual sensitivity develops through awareness.A newborn child is innocent and pure. Yet the Torah teaches that even in situations that seem harmless, we should train ourselves to recognize what is appropriate for holiness and what is not.The goal is not to become obsessed with technicalities.
